    BUILDING WITH STONE - The Basics & Beyond
    NORTH HOUSE FOLK SCHOOL Workshop ($170) - August 8 & 9, 2009 and
    ROUND RIVER Workshop ($150) - September 19 & 20, 2009
     Immerse yourself in a stone building workshop at Round River Farm. Participants will receive important hands-on time moving from basic theory to "I can" build with stone. Moreover, students will have a chance to explore interior non-structual stone building techniques. Students work and learn at different stone building 'stations' as they encounter varied building techniques and strategies.     CARBON FREE COOKING - Designing, Building and Using Solar Ovens
    NORTH HOUSE FOLK SCHOOL Workshop ($170 + materials) - May 2 & 3, 2009 and
    ROUND RIVER Workshop ($150 + materials) - August 15 & 16, 2009
     It tastes so sweet, feels so good, but don't forget it can burn you. Solar cooking is used around the world and is now making heat waves here in the Midwest. This workshop will provide you with the knowledge, craftsmanship, basic skills and techniques to build your own solar oven. Learn design & material considerations, walk through the building process and actually build your own oven. During breaks from building you will find yourself cooking some meals using different solar ovens (if sunny.) Even Minnesota winters can't stop the solar oven!     INTENSIVE GARDENING - Saving Money, Eating Better

     Help transform an urban yard by turning it into a garden. This course will include designing, building and planting intensive gardens as well as a simple greenhouse to aid with food production. We will explore techniques to grow more food in less space without chemicals or unnecessary costs. The idea to create a food production system right before your eyes that will greatly reduce your trips to the supermarket and cut your food costs.     SUSTAINABLE LIVING WORKSHOP

    ROUND RIVER Workshop - Arrange for custom workshop...
     How can you reduce your carbon footprint in the reality of your own life? Using the solar and wind-powered homestead at Round River Farm as a classroom, this workshop will provide a jumping off point to making environmentally sustainable decisions for yourself. We'll look at the big picture as well as examine the specifics of transportation, water use, wastewater re-use, growing and cooking food, producing your own electricity and hot water, and choosing building designs and materials. Both rural and urban scenarios will be addressed in this workshop. Demonstrations, presentations, discussion and even some games will be interspersed with work on an individual plan of action that participants will take home with them.     WINTER WREATH WEAVING

     This five hour class gives you the opportunity to learn how to weave the northwoods greens into a circular holiday wreath. Participants will learn what greens to cut, how to hand wire them to the circle, how to decorate and make bows. You will start in the woods then end up at the farm figuring how to coordinate your 15 fingers and 4 thumbs. (At least that is what it will feel like) Most go home with a unique and sometimes beautiful holiday circular forest.     GREYWATER SYSTEMS - Designing, Building and Regulators
    ROUND RIVER Workshop - Arrange for custom workshop...
     This course offers a great opportunity to be directly involved in the installation of a greywater treatment system (SymBioSystem) for a cabin at Round River Farm. After years of research, the final SymBioSystem has been successfully treating our waste water for almost a decade now. It provides our farm plant fertilizer, simplicity in design, energy efficiency, ecological integrity and requires a minimal amount of time for maintenance.
