Solar Power Systems
Solar equipment can be bought anywhere, but designing your system correctly can
save you thousands of dollars as well as time and anxiety. We have established a simple
step by step process
to make things clear.
In brief, step one includes setting up a Renewable Energy Site Evaluation,
step two provides an itemized cost estimate of your renewable energy system,
step three we purchase the equipment,
step four we install your system,
see some photo's of a recent solar
installation
and step five enjoy the free power from the sun.
These steps can be taken quickly or spread over a longer period of time. There are also some rebates
and credits available from some utilities, state and national government programs. Part of step one, the Renewable Energy Site Evaluation, we will look at your energy footprint. Choosing the right appliances will reduce your energy load. What model of washing machine or refrigerator you choose is an important consideration, choosing whether you "need" a dryer or "need" the largest refrigerator or if you need a electric refrigerator at all is a lifestyle or design consideration. As an example, we use a large refrigerator in the summer because we run a vegetable farm, but we use an "ice-box refrigerator" that is installed through our house wall and has an opening to the outside temperatures in the winter. Using NO energy in the winter has helped our smaller solar system work well for us all year. Check out the sample systems below because right now, some of you can tap into Utility, State and Federal dollars to offset the cost of your systems. In some states, credits and grants (In MN for utility inter-tie systems, the state will pay $2,000 per KW installed and some utilities will match that) can half the cost of your system. The new Federal $2,000 Tax Credit provide savings for people who owe taxes! Remember, even president Bush said, "we're addicted to OIL!" |

Summer 625 watts/per day ----- Winter 250 watts/per day An inexpensive system that provides limited high efficiency DC lighting, TV & stereo. (Equipment includes a PV panel, small charge controller and batteries *note...no safety breakers or lightening control system is included) @ $1,500 without shipping and installation |
Summer 1250 watts/per day ----- Winter 500 watts/per day A larger system (twice as big) that provides limited high efficiency DC lighting, color TV, VCR, compost toilet fan & stereo. (Equipment includes two PV panels, small charge controller and batteries *note* ...no safety breakers or lightening control system is included) @ $2,500 without shipping and installation |
Summer 1250 watts/per day ----- Winter 500 watts/per day A small home/cabin system that provides limited high efficiency DC lighting, color TV & stereo. The AC also allows the use of some hand power tools, sewing machine, efficient clothes washer & computer when the sun is blessing your home. A generator will be needed for backup and supercharging. (Equipment includes two PV panels, charge controller, DC breaker center and batteries *note...lightening control system information is included...) @ $ 5,000 without shipping and installation |
Summer 2500 watts/per day ----- Winter 1000 watts/per day A conserving home system that provides limited high efficiency DC lighting, compost toilet fan and stereo. The AC also allows the use of hand power tools, sewing machine, efficient clothes washer, kitchen appliances, microwave, computer, color TV, VCR, & deep well pump. Conservation is needed along with a generator for backup and supersharging. (Equipment includes four PV panels, charge controller, DC breaker center, AC breaker center and batteries *note...lightening control system information is included...) @ $8,000 without shipping and installation |
Summer 5000 watts/per day ----- Winter 2000 watts/per day A home system that provides limited high efficiency DC lighting, compost toilet fan and stereo. The AC also alows the use Vestfrost, Sunfrost or hand build high efficiency refrigeration, hand power tools, sewing machine, efficient clothes washer, kitchen appliances, microwave, computer color TV, VCR, & deep well pump. Conservation is needed along with a generator for backup and supersharging. This is a slightly larger system then our solar system that runs our home, business and farm. Without the wind energy as our backup, the darkest time of winter can challenge our power needs. (Equipment includes eight PV panels, charge controller, DC breaker center, AC breaker center and batteries *note...lightening control system information is included...) @ $15,000 without shipping and installation |
