Introductory Class
CLASS DESCRIPTION: This class is designed to have fun and learn basic food concepts by starting with "getting to know each other" activities. The time is spent learning names, sharing stories and assessing what level of understanding the students already have about farming and food systems. The lesson plan provides the opportunity for the farmer to not only share the reason why they farm, but also to share some fun and challenging things that have happened on the farm. The remaining activities begin to move the students to a "self realization" about what the eat.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Learn names of the students. Get the students comfortable with the farmer and with each other
  • Set standards of behavior and set expectations of the students for the next nine classes.
  • To share stories and personalize farming.
  • To have the students explore their consumption habits and foods they depend on.
  • To introduce basic food and food systems concepts to the students.
