David & Lise Abazsgraduated from Warren Wilson College in North Carolina with B.A. degrees in Environmental Studies with a Biology concentration & Intercultural Studies with a South East Asia concentration. Twenty years ago, they settled in the beautiful Sawtooth Mountains along the North Shore of Lake Superior. In the ensuing years, Lise and David, together with Colby and Tremayne, have journeyed along a path of sustainability, building their lives and land systems to mimic earths cycles. As they pick-axed the land they sprouted a CSA farming operation and powered it all by installing a solar and wind renewable enrgy systems. They also built up several businesses around sustainably grown products and renewable energy systems. They have worked various jobs to fund the farm and community systems over the years such as with the Lake County Soil and Water Conservation Distric, North House Folk School, Minnesota Environmental Partnership, Wolf Ridge ELC, North Shore Mining and have developed educational programs and outreach efforts through the work of Shalom Seed Sanctuary which they started in 1988. They were raised protestants and are now Friends with the Religious Society of the Truth (Quakers) They have been involved in the NYM Friends with Unity for Nature and the national organization Quaker Earthcare Witness. more on the Abazs' |
Wes & Lori SeeleGraduated from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point with B.A. degrees in Forest Management, Ecosystem Restoration, Environmental Education and Art... Since their marriage in June 2006, they have lived at Round River Farm, turning the cabin into a home and exploring intentional community with the Abazs'. Lori and Wes' spirituality is deeply rooted to there passion for the environment in connection to the land. Their experiences with our brothers and sisters in other parts of the world have inspired them to live with more awareness. As well, their involvement in Catholic Worker Communities is an integral part of their way of life. With the Abazs family, they enjoy learning how the core values of Quakers and Catholics are alike. In addition to the farm, Lori teaches and guides canoe trips for Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center and Wes works as a DNR Forester. Fun Facts: Wes receives lots of compliments about his big red beard and the creatures that live in it. Lori is the queen of the berry patch, a spoon carver, and juggles musical instruments. |
Melinda SuelflowMelinda Suelflow graduated from Macalester College with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Political Science. She has recently moved back to the Finland area and is substitute teaching in the Silver Bay schools and at Wolf Ridge ELC, where she was an intern for two years in 2004-06. She is working with Abazs and Seele families on the CSA vegetable farm and is also working on getting her teaching certificate through St. Scholastica in Duluth. Her motivations in life include a love of northern MN and the outdoors. The natural world is her inspiration in developing a more spiritual connection to land and sustainable living. Recent travels in Argentina led her to a commitment to return to northern MN to begin a life of teaching and living closer to the land. Currently she's excited about making new connections and reestablishing old ones with friends in the Finland area. |
